CSR – The Prisoners' Education Trust

At The OCM, we are passionate about learning in all its forms and have the pleasure of continuing our support of The Prisoners' Education Trust. Established in 1989, the Trust was the brainchild of David Burton, a former education officer at HMP Wandsworth, and barrister Vernon Cocking.

Recognising that the narrow range of classes on offer could not meet prisoners' needs, David, Vernon and a group of others considered how more education and training could be provided. They decided that offering prisoners the opportunity to study by distance learning (correspondence courses) would tackle the problem.

It aims to extend and enrich the range of education and training available to people in prison and to promote the importance of education and training in the successful resettlement of offenders once they are released.

Thanks to the generosity of all the delegates at our recent annual conference we have been able to send a cheque for £1000 to the Trust to continue our support.
