Our Approach
Our market leading qualifications are the heart of The OCM. Previously known as the Oxford School of Coaching and Mentoring, we are now in our 11th year of delivering qualification programmes and have qualified over 2,000 people. All our qualifications are quality controlled to the highest professional standards by independent accrediting bodies. We use the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC) to validate the professional practice element of our programmes, incorporating the current, up-to-date coaching competences. Additionally we use the Business School of Oxford Brookes University (OBU) to uphold the academic rigour of our programmes. We are still the only organisation whose programmes meet OBU's stringent accreditation requirements.
We have been working in partnership with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) since 2003 to deliver their Coaching and Mentoring Certificate programmes.
Our programmes are not a 'quick fix solution' - they are challenging and rigorous to meet the high standards demanded by our accrediting bodies. Our approach to coach-mentoring allows candidates to develop their own unique coaching and mentoring identity within a robust framework of best practice by encouraging the development of a range of approaches to suit the variety of situations and contexts in which coaching and mentoring takes place. We do not 'pigeon hole' or limit our candidates with a singular approach.
The programmes are practice orientated with a strong theoretical underpinning. Our focus is on the highly practical and experiential 'self-managed learning by doing'. You will work with volunteer 'learners' of your choice and undertake regular coach-mentoring sessions with your own personal, qualified and experienced coach-mentor who also acts as your supervisor, tutor and assessor.
The programmes are also a truly blended learning experience with access to streamed audio and video content by recognised subject experts, online measurement tools and opportunities to get involved in new social learning activities. Some programmes have skills development workshops for group learning opportunities with fellow candidates. It's a flexible experience and whilst you're guided through a structured programme, you're able to undertake both study and practice at a time and pace that suits your own personal circumstances.
