Supervision and CPD
For a number of years we have actively been involved with and encouraged the development of Coaching and Mentoring Supervision. This involvement has been in two directions.
Firstly to actively support and challenge the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC) to develop Coaching and Mentoring Supervision competences. In doing so we have helped to further progress collaboration between the EMCC and other coaching and mentoring associations to gain synergy of thinking around commonly agreed competences.
Secondly, to actively put in place Coaching and Mentoring Supervision systems for all of our Coach Mentor Supervisors (CMS's) and Associates who work on both qualification and corporate programmes. More recently we have overtly encouraged candidates on our programmes to explore and understand more about Coaching and Mentoring Supervision as part of their development and ongoing learning towards becoming highly effective coach-mentors.
Currently it is not a legal or formal requirement of coaches and mentors to be under regular supervision. Our experience though clearly shows that coaches and mentors who are in regular supervision are continuing to learn and develop. We would not advocate that our profession becomes legally regulated, simply that it self-regulates to maximise quality and effectiveness in coaching and mentoring across the UK and Europe.
